I can drive to the dealership and see the cars I eventually will buy on display, again walking around it as if it’s real.

I can use turn signals, roll the windows down. I spawn in my early apartment, walk in my garage in first person to select my Corrado and take it for a drive. While the games had many flaws, it’s still one of the few open world driving games where I actually felt like “a person doing x, y, and z” rather than just goofy avatar #6483. The reason people still have such a soft spot for TDU is the immersion and sense of progression. They weren't just a means to climb up a hypothetical tree of speed and beat the game- they could be if that's what you wanted, but that you could soak it in a little more was nice, and I hope if nothing else they double down on that with this new game. Even if the driving model wasn't the best, and it didn't have the biggest selection of cars, it felt like a game that loved cars and wanted to let you love them back. I'm gonna drive to that dealership, and I'm gonna walk inside and go up to that Ferrari California, and I'm gonna test drive it to make sure I definitely want it, and then I'm gonna buy it with the money I saved up, and I'm gonna put the roof down, admire the interior with the right stick, and head on my way.

I respect what TDU did because it made you feel a little more involved in the experience of vehicle ownership without going too overboard, and because of that no other racing game has made me feel more like a car I just bought was 'mine' than that series has. I really hope this new game remembers that and doesn't do away with it. Of course not, but it all helps ground you in the world more and adds an extra layer of physicality, like taking a vinyl record out of its sleeve. Do you have to be able to make the windows and roof go up and down or adjust the volume of the radio while you're in the car and not in a menu? Do you need to walk into the dealership, go to the car in first person, and buy it from there? Probably not. Do you need to be able to get plastic surgery and have bandages appear on your avatar's face for the first few days? No. Yeah, I have a special love for TDU most notably because of the things it tried that other games don't do 'because they don't have to'. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
